I've become increasingly aware of the good music I've missed out on last year. Maybe someday, when I know I'm not missing things from only the previous year I will restart my endeavor. Anyone that wants to take up the challenge, go for it.

July week 1.

Sadly I have to leave music for 3 days this week for a hike in Virgina. Luckly I will have a steady stream of Fol Chen and Dirty Projectors streaming in my head. I've been listening to way too much of both Fol Chen's album Part 1: "John Shade, Your Fortune's Made" and Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca.

The only other post I have about Dirty Projectors involves David Bryne's cleverly worded song about a peice of 2x4. This album, sound wise, is quite similar, but lyrically quite different. In the song Useful Chambers male vocalist and band leader David Longstreth, sings "bitte bitte orca bitte" a varation of the album title. Apparently the album is also named Bitte Orca simply because the band like's how it sounds.

Though I am a lyric hound. I actually love that snippet. The sound it creates is almost addictive and quite fun to sing along to, which is part of my attraction to songs. The band's lyrical sound is one of my favorites and the male singer's (David Longstreth) vocal choices almost match Chris Keating, lead singer of Yeasayer.

The last thing I like about these two bands is that they have several vocalists. On each track it seems someone else gets a chance to sing. My favorite songs off of Fol Chen's album includes 3 different lead singers. No Wedding Cake is the vocal genius of Samuel Bing, Cable TV is the seductive tone of Melissa Thorne, and The Idiot is sung by another member I cannot name at the moment because my internet hates me. The same goes with Dirty Projectors.

Soooo I'm terrible at blogging apparently. I definately could have come on here more but I fell I have nothing important to say and playlists become much more of a chore to create when the likely hood that anyone is looking at it is slim..

so, once a week now I will definitely create a blurb for the week.

This week I found out that Matt and Kim's album came out in January. My misconception was that their album came out December-ish. So now I get to listen to them. My little brother already has Good Ol' Fashion Nightmare Stuck in his head and I'm slowly getting to my whole family.

No Doubt was amazing live and Paramore were fine performers, though I have yet to enjoy their music. Janelle Monae opened for Paramore, and though she had some sick/spastic dance moves but it was a weird way to be introduced to her music. Standing in the rain in the lawn at the PNC center (?) in Southern New Jersey that is. Gwen is still a beast and all the guys still possess their youthful dance moves/ jumping skills. The only thing more I could have wanted was for No Doubt to play some of their old super ska stuff off of the Becon Street Collection and their Self Titled Album.

Looking forward to several free concerts in the city as well as All Points West.

Today I released that St. Vincent and Grizzly Bear caught the same guitar sound on a few of their tracks. Also, Yeasayer's drummer and lead singer have very similar styles as Grizzly Bear's drummer and lead singer. Either they should make a super album or go on tour together.

I'm gearing up for festivals, listening to all the music I can from this year from bands going to one's I'll be at.

Hazards of love was amazing live. Radio City Music Hall definitely needed to host it. I only wish I was slightly closer, though it was still amazing.

I attempted to listen to Green Day's new cd yesterday, but Grizzly bear is right under it on my ipod, so I ended up just listening to Grizzly Bear again. Someday I guess I'll have to.

Grizzly Bear destroys any other song that might get stuck in my head these past few days. Though I though I'd never get sleepy head (by passion pit) out of my head, Two Weeks dominates it all. The simplistic piano has become my new venture in playing, and a fairly good start for someone with very little piano experience.

The whole album is fairly mellow, but it keeps on the line of enough mellow verses too much. For example, the Doves new album is fantastic indeed, but very much too mellow. Dirty Projectors new album is a mixture of too mellow and not very mellow at all. Grizzly Bear is in the middle of the two on that scale. Enjoy the video.

So this blog has become very rarely updated. Mostly because I've lost interest in all things that resemble work near the end of the school year.

For anyone attending the Hazards of Love concert in Radio City Music Hall on June 10th, hope to see you there. I got a last minute extra ticket and I'm thrilled. Recently I've been working on The Hazards of Love (4) for a love day in English class where I would preform it, said just to show my over-excitement for the whole ordeal.

Passion Pit's new album is fantastic. Though my father tells me his voice resembles one Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional, its all for a good reason. Michael Angelakos sings quite earnestly in all his words, which is where the reference came from. Maybe because he's singing to his girlfriend, it often helps.

Music Festivals this summer:
Though I would love to go to Bonnaroo, it is much to far and expensive. On the other hand, a festival with many of the same musicians and also easy access for me and a friend, All Points West seems like it's going to be AMAZING. All three days are unmissable basically, but $200 dollars for 3 days and 50 bands from which to pick your ultimate viewing experience is an unmissable opportunity if you live at all near Liberty State Park.

Don't forget the free Siren Music Festival on Cony Island.

The last festival, though I am no where close, is the Redding Festival in England, though it is sold out, so find a scalper if your close and enjoy the amazing line up.

Micachu's album, which I somehow got, is fabulous. Definitely not an album with only a single to enjoy.
Not necessarily my favorite track, but the track who's sound most often is stuck in my head is "Floor" off of Jewellery. This one is just a Micachu track, and the lack of lots of technological beats and regular drum beats from the shapes, is refreshing. Also, it's one of the only tracks ever that successfully did noise harmonies. Where the harmony doesn't follow the lyrics and actually is just a noise, but it still sounds good, and actually makes the track sound better.
Though "Gold Phone" is the most accessible, and the one that will probably turn up on some commercial, "Vulture" is defiantly the best song and the one that most sums up Micachu and the Shapes sound. Heavy strumming, lots of technological sounds, and steady loud drums.

Micachu & the Shapes. I am so very excited to load the album "Jewellery" onto my iPod, when I can. Though I have yet to love the whole album, I have contracted a sever addiction to "Gold Phone" and "Vulture"
Though I'm sure the short snippets do no justice to the whole tracks on the album, and I'm looking forward to contracting the same addiction to the whole album. I was afraid Jewellery was only going to hold one single I was excited about. Singles from 2009 is this weeks playlist by the way.

Two Suns
I just got the album, and was sad to find it much to easy to talk over. In fact it was almost awkward to not talk over. Maybe I need to spend some alone time with it, but I guess I much more of a sucker of semi-pop songs that I can catch a lyric here or there to sing too. Bat for Lashes sings so personally that I'd feel intrusive singing with her, or at least they allude something to personal. Also being a lyrically biased listener, I'm slightly unimpressed. They simply seem to be just statements without any word to sound mastery or attempt.

If you feel the same disappointment, here's some noise music from Boo and Boo Too (Boo happens to be my childhood nickname, so that's a double plus for this band)

Hold Time and Middle Cyclone.
I have been listening to the pair a lot in this past week and have noticed a very interesting thing, the match up quite well. It seems as if their formula's are almost the same. It's one part acoustic love songs + acoustic songs with a beat + a few mellow acoustic songs = one dang good mostly acoustic album.

My friend has gotten me in to the Math Rock genre, something catchy about it I guess.
Therefore, the next play list will be a Math rock one. This is to show off a genre becoming slightly more popular and to fill my need to listen to some Battles, who don't have an album out this year.

It seems back in the day I was into a lot of math core.. I discovered this looking for any math rock album due out this year. 2008 and 2006 seems to be the much more popular years to release, so I'm having a hard time finding a good 2009 release from a Math Rock band. In face many even numbers are release dates (1996, 1998).. I guess Math Rock bands are much more even than odd.

I've found one slightly math rock influenced band (Joan of Arc) but I'm slightly uninterested, they don't really follow the formula for math rock tightly.

Finally, in the "T" 's I found three releases from Math Rock bands
- Idioms Vol. 1 by Tera Melos this ep is a cover ep, so I don't know how it will sound
- All the Saints/These Arms Shake by These Arms Shake is a 7" (the glorified single)
- Animals by This Town Needs Guns is a full album which came out in the US this January, I'm excited to take a listen.

Oh lame slide show... but this is the most math rock sounding of This Town Needs Guns I could find. Apparently their track "Banboo" is much more Math Rock-y, but I cannot find it. It's all missing the atypical melodies (the vocal medodies is what I'm more concerned with) and replacing it with quite typical melodies.

Easily misused songs play list

1. Wedding Cake - Fol Chen (imagine this being played during a wedding, and laugh)

2. Actor out of Work - St. Vincent (imagine this on a sitcom, starring an actor out of work, and laugh)

3. My Night with the Prostitute from Marseille (imagine this on any sitcom. and laugh)

4. In the Flowers - Animal Collective (imagine someone running through flowers, and laugh)

5. The Greatest Light is the Greatest Shade - The Joy Formidable (imagine happy family times, and laugh)

This just shows how easily a song title can be misinterpreted and sadly, many are. That's why it is easy to tell if a music supervisors is good or bad, they actually listen to the song for the felling rather than just the words. A mixture of feeling and words is definitely the best, but hard to come by.

The play list this week is going to be of "Songs easily to misuse" in a Music Supervision standpoint. Mostly obvious lyrics that could be easily put into obvious situations, which would almost ruin the content of the song, but also sounds that could be misused. This whole play list, unlike others, is going to be of songs only from this year.

I know it's a little late seeing that the album came out in , but Fol Chen's album keeps coming up, so I must now take it seriously. The album "Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune's Made" is about as serious as the title, but delves out some serious kiddy sounds. It's like if the kinder-music groups got some serious lyrics, and looked at a market much older. I'm enjoy the stuff I've found online (such as the video below) but I've found their live performances to sound more interesting.

Epically "wedding cake" live. It's gotta be like 20x better. Now if only I could find a good sound quality recording.

My last post on St. Vincent was very un-expansive, so I decided to post about here again; partly because she's all I listen too until the album gets kicked off of first listen (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=103138882) and partly because I feel as a reader you deserve more about it.

Top Notch songs
- Strangers
- Marrow
- Actor out of Work

All three songs feature some awesome beat.
Strangers have the pounding bass behind so very airy sounds on top of it, and a surprising lack of hard guitar.
Marrow brings in that hard guitar and backed by a disco beat.
Actor Out of Work is the most addicting song on the album, I listen to it at least twice as much as any other song off the album (except for maybe Marrow). The charm of the song comes from it's again hard hitting drums, and brilliant horn sounds that awkwardly break up the song while progressing it (contradicting, I know). The lightness of Annie Clark's easily over-powering voice on this track gives way to the technical sounds, as well as the moments of chaos.

Back to the fact that this is an album of pieces. Though pieces, they all seem to come from a happier Annie Clark, not that she was ever unhappy, but IS undeniable that she LOOKS happier. Check out the new album cover and compare it to Marry Me's cover. Though the live shows may not show it, something still has changed from the DUMBO Sessions (widely accessible on You Tube) to her more recent performances. It might just be the hair, though it is completely necessary that someone that shares hare with Little Orphan Annie (and a name) should look so happy.

St. Vincent is now in her Daddy Warbucks stage and past the orphanage.

So St. Vincent's album is an album of singles. Each song is unique to it's self and much more enjoyable that way.
This year (so far) has seemed to be an album of a whole, maybe "Actor" will bring about some fantastic albums of pieces.

I love the album already. I'm gonna listen to it for free as long as I can, and then buy it at the very moment it comes out on May 5th. Good job St. Vincent, hope to see you sometime over the summer live.

I've discovered that Thurlow is poor mans Eulogies. The both have a similar sound but Eulogies is a little tighter and has had more experience in the studio, this (Here Anonymous) being their second recording and first full length album.

It is either this or just the song "Two Can Play" sound similar to Thurlow.
Either way, I'm more excited for Thurlow's progression into a full length album, then their current album which needs a little work. Still an enjoyable piece though.

They only have a 8 track EP, but it's good. On the surface they do sound pretty generic, but truly, there is some intriguing stuff here. Of the two piece(both singers on different tracks) the girls voice isn't my cup of tea, but it is an interesting sound. She sounds very classically trained, with seemingly perfect pitch. I don't know, I like a little bit of misguided attempt, but it's still a good sound.

The tracks I like more are when the male sings. He has a very average voice for the genre I like, but I guess there's a reason I like it.

The band defiantly has potential to do more, like add more band members. Sometimes the production gets a little cheesy. The bass lines could be worked in a little better, but a solid album still.

Death Cab EP. thurlow.

Death Cab for Cutie has an EP coming out on April 14. It's called the Open Door EP

Of samples from Amazon, it sounds like a solid Death Cab album. Not too changed up, but why would you with such a working formula? Ben Gibbard's voice on anything becomes gold, so look out for this EP. In full versions there's probably a stand-out single that will show up everywhere. (Like the above video)

The formula for music last year lies somewhere in loud happy music (ex Mates of State, Santogold, and so on) or very dark acoustic music with lots of harmonies and beards (Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and so on).

Already, the mixing of the level of happiness with loudness of the music has been changed up. Bruce Peninsula, for example, creates some haunting songs around a chorus of up to 10 people. Neko Case builds some happy music on her quiet, but full, record. All we need now is a very contemplative happy song from a man with a beard. Or maybe the opposite; Colin Meloy could grow a beard and his very loud, in the end miserable, album could satisfy all aspects of beardyness, sorrow, and volume.

BTW: Demigods by Mega Wand and Steamroller by Bruce Peninsula fit oddly well together if played at the same time by accident... Steamroller at a much lower level.

It's Blitz!
By the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, it's the perfect popish album to come out this year. With the easy to enjoy, but not really capturing, sound which anyone can agree on. I'm glad it came out, and the album is prefect for just that, agreeing on a cd in the car where you can feel your indie edgeyness, but your mother can also sing along.

The only reason I would at all be a disgruntled customer would be of the lack of Yeah Yeah Yeahs essence. Fell In Love With the Night is undoubtly my favorite song by them. Maps is also up there, with the aggressive drums, simple but rough guitar, and smooth vocals or Karen O. They lose themselves a little behind the disco fever.

The album does show some progression in the band, in the use of electronics, and such, opposed to only vocals, drums, and guitar. Karen O.'s brand of vocals still adds all the vocal catches and breathy yells. I can just imagine drummer Brian Chase grooving with the Disco beat and instrument man Nick Zinner felling a little like a mad scientist creating the disco-era-parallel backing sounds under his emotionless facade.

The Decemberists are amazing. The best album in a long time. Best album because it is amazing from beginning to end, and it is only the most enjoyable as the whole album.

I know I wasn't very impressed with them when their album came out, but I didn't listen to the whole thing through. A hour+ car trip changed that all, and maybe listening to a live recording as well. DO NOT think of this album as singles at all. It is a piece, an epic as described on NPR. The story isn't extremely complicated, but I did get lost a little to the amazing music and swept-up-edness of many of the songs. The female voices are beautiful and powerful, epically of one My Brightest Diamond lead, Shara Worden.

So Disco beats is prevalent in this years music, but so is Balkan Sounding horns.

Take for example Beirut's album. Most of it is littered with the sound thanks to an Oaxacan funeral Band. Sufjan also borrows the sound for his 10 minute song "You Are the Blood" on Dark Was the Night. Basically, the next playlist will be of Balkan music, specifically but not limited to, horns.

Grizzly Bears released an MP3 called "Cheerleader" off their upcoming album Veckatimest.

It's decent but I'd be much more exited to hear Christopher Bear, Daniel Rosson and Chris Taylors' lower octaves. There slightly more enjoyable.

The Now and Than Playlist

1. No Doubt- A Little Something Refreshing (1992)

2. None Yet. They are not going to put out new songs until the tour starts. Though I won't be surprised if their new songs are completely unrelated to the good old days, and much more like Gwen's solo albums. Sad, but most likely true. I'm still giddy about their tour. Hopefully I'll go.

I realise I chose their album name, but it is my favorite track off their new album. And the difference between the two songs just shows the gallons of maturity gained in 22 years. Not only do they appeal to the general populous, they also have found a way to keep to a more unknown scene, even if it is Bono and U2. Though "A Beautiful Day" is a great song, this new album shows more progression then there past records.

5. Fastball- The Way (1998) - yes their "hit" but seriously, I grew up on it. It was the first NOW album, when the NOW albums were good.

6. Fastball- Little White Lies (2009) - Definitely changed their sound, but in a good way. The obscurity in "The Way" is much more dominant in this track, along with some disco drumming and guitar strumming. I guess they got the memo.

7. Smashing Pumpkins- Sweet Sweet (1993) James Iha

8. Cheap Trick- I Dig Go-Go Girls (1977) Bun E. Carlos (Check out the drumming on this track for a feel of what he brings to Tinted Windows)

9. Hanson- MMMBop (1997) Taylor Hanson (the Middle Hanson)

Today I made a tab for Knotty Pine off of Dark was the Night. Hopefully it will be posted onto Indie Guitar Tabs soon.

Also, I've decided to revoke any music Saturdays. I was using them mostly to listen to whatever I want, rather than researching music for the playlist. Instead, if it has to do with playlist research, I can listen to any music I want. This probably will be more limiting, because I'm deciding what to do for playlists very early in the week, even though they will still come out on Saturday.

This week the playlist will be a study of artists who put out music in 2009, but have also put out much older music. For example, U2's new album opposed to their older ones. There will be one song from this year, or something from at least 2006 on, and something from beyond at least 1995.

I'm sorry to say there will be no playlist from last week. It was a sick weekend break, of which I enjoyed far too many movies and far too much television, but I'm glad to be back, and more alive.

While becoming couch fungus, I watched all of the current episodes of US of Tara. From which I have heard and seen some excellent use of music. Particularly the suiting (on purpose) intro to the episodes is The Polyphonic Spree - United States of Tara.

Other good music they have used come from Liam Finn (who seems to be every were in the past few weeks) and several others I should have written down. Anyways, I'm giving The United States of Tara a gold medal for music supervision. Yay Diablo Cody, you've officially won more awards than people though you deserved.

No more graduations related tests left, but some very good music got me through it.

Tightrope- Yeasayer

This would be the fourth song on the blogger playlist Dark Was the Night offers, but they only allowed three songs. As a late but much deserved treat, here in a video of the studio recording of the song. Definitely, this song is the most addictive one of the CD, though I'm still to debate if it is the best.

Neko Case's new album is all over pretty solid. The only songs that really impresses me though is "This Tornado Loves You" which I just find brilliant. Some of the lyrics bother me, like when she says she needs to take a bus to the fact that she needs love. Honestly taking a bus to a fact just bothers me in general. It seems to be too well appreciated for my response, so I'm gonna keep listening to it. Repetition seems to attract me to an album and appreciate it more (for example my change of hart concerning Bruce Peninsula http://onlyof09.blogspot.com/2009/02/eighth-day.html). I'll tell you how it all goes.

Today I sadly couldn't place The Clash to their music. I had absolutely no idea who it was when my friend put it on. Loosing touch with some of my 8th grade roots, but this experiment still has more pros than cons.

Finally got USB cord for the iPod. Oh technology..

I also got 2 new albums, both compilation cds. One's absolutely fantastic. The other is all covers and I only got 5 songs off of my dad. Some are good, but others miss out.

One is called Dark is the Night. It is insanely amazing, and almost exactly what I need, many amazing artists with fantastic tracks from all of them. Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Beirut, Bon Iver, Cat Power and Dirty Delta Blues, The Decemberists, Dirty Projectors and David Byrne, Feist does two separate tracks with Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie) and Grizzly Bear, Grizzly Bear, Iron & Wine, My Brightest Diamond, My Morning Jacket, The New Pornographers, Conor Oberst and Gillian Welch, Spoon, Sufjan Stevens, and Yeasayer are all the things that excited me about this album. There are also plenty of other bands that I don't listen to as much, but the whole two CD collection is amazing.

The Sufjan Stevens track "You Are the Blood" is particularly satisfying to me. I'm lacking in a vital music vitamin without him. It's 10 minuets on the album, and is basically a battle between Sufjan's very computer and technical side (ie. Enjoy Your Rabbit) and his much more acoustic classical side (ie. "That Dress Looks Nice on you"). It was a fantastic find, and I'm happy to have it for this year.

Representing Sufjan's music label Asthmatic Kitty, My Brightest Dimond covers "Feeling Good" and when I was watching the few middle school-ers on my bus looking confused as the bus door wouldn't open, I was much happier. It made the situation much more humorous even though I thought we'd be late to school on the day of the HESPAs(NJ state Highschool test, you need to pass to graduate). It's not to innovative, but the song is and always will be fantastic, and anyone that can sing it well should record it.

Yeasayer and Arcade Fire's songs are also among my favorite on the album, but I put the Feist + Grizzly Bear track on the offered blog playlist from the album site. (They know their audience too well.. and I'm one of the suckers that bought into it... oh well. Good music streamed for free is worth it.)

Sweetheart is a Starbucks offer, but there are some decent covers. Actually She & Him cover "I Put a Spell on you" and it's brilliant, and A.C.Newman (of the The New Pornographers) cover "Take On Me" and it's very good even though he kind of sounds like he's swallowing his tongue on the high note, who can blame him?(pop songs where so high pitched in the 80s) Jem covers "Yellow" in a wonderful stripped piano and vocal version, with strings later in the song.

Rouge Wave cover "Maps" but seemed to miss the memo about how slow acoustic songs and lyric repetition don't always mix. Anyway, it was a good attempt at one of my favorite songs. "Love Song" covered by Death Cab for Cutie is decent, but I'm bias in that "Love Song" never really interested me. Sorry Robert Smith.

Now I have to go get Neko Case's new album Middle Cyclone. They stopped free streaming today with it's release.

Pale Young Gentlemen cover M.I.A in a way that only fans of both the Clash and M.I.A with out any apparent attempt at using computer sound.

Neko Case's new album is due out in a week, but to fall in love with it now, NPR is streaming the whole thing. Just listening to it now, the very first song is in no way lacking in quick-spit witty lyrics reminiscent of Jenny Lewis with a less groove and more banjo beat in the background.

Having lost my iPod connector to my computer, I could not get the new Psapp album onto my iPod. That left me with The Joy Formidable to continue to rave over. The only problem is that five songs can get fairly overplayed quite quickly. It's amazing how quickly a music collection has already built this year.

I figured I'd show where I come from musically. It doesn't really go into much of what I listen too now, because it'd be much to much to write, but it's pretty detailed concerning my far past. This might explain why I'm doing this experiment, but probably won't. Oh well.

It all started with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Thanks to Power Rangers (2:00-about5:00). I watched that clip way to many times, not only for the extraordinary non-suited power rangers action, but also for the song. At the time I was 4, and other than Sesame Street, it was probably the only music I would choose to listen too.

For most of my childhood, I listened to the Pure Funk CD. This was mostly a family consensus. My little brother sang "Brick House" for much of his childhood, and the Kung Fu Fighting chipmunk was a revelation when it came out.

During this time Sunny Came Home was my favorite song for about three years.

From there I got in to Brittany Spears and B*Witched like any 8 year girl would. I only got into B*Witched because of a stocking stuffer that was a VHS of a music video for Jesse Hold On. Being obsessed with music and video at a young age, you can not even imagine how obsessed I got about 3 other girls to make a music video recreation of this. Sadly we never did, because those dance moves are insanely amazing.

After that I listened to Nellyville for a few months straight.

In about 6th grade I got intensely into Nirvana and dyed my hair different colors, and from Yahoo Video Station (which was basically a poorly though out Pandora) I got into The Distillers, and many other bands. Luck for me, I got really into them about a month before Coral Fang came out. With harder sounding music on my mind, my brother and I began sharing similar tastes in music, which got me into screamo music. Nevea Tears, a very unknown screamo band, being the best of all and the only one I still listen too (but was unaware of a second album until just now). The downfall for this type of hardcore music was when I started listening to Lamb of God, which basically scared me out of pursuing it further.

Bored and in search of more music, I adventured in local concerts (at which I often felt very young) and the occasional warped tour.

My salvation from decent music to amazing music came in the form of Sufjan Stevens. My Dad has always put on bands that he think I might like throughout my life, he didn't and probably still doesn't notice the impact of putting that on had on me. It was a simple ride to pick up one of my friends at the time, but I remember it very clearly.

From that point I started on a mission to find anything better, so I could duel with my father for who found the better band (basically) and I just began to get sick of anything without as much thought and effort behind the layers of Illinoise, Seven Swans, and even his Christmas album.

About early sophomore year, I became content with my collection and decided to do the exact opposite of what I'm doing now, I let music find me. With a very full iPod I found no need to search for more exciting and new music, but people still gave me recommendations.

Now a Junior, with a path in mind for my future, I felt I needed to mix up myself up somehow. This is my own experiment, with almost no purpose, but none the less, it has already been extremely enjoyable and eye opening.

As for today Psapp's album is out!!!

Today I listened to Animal Collective's album through twice. What a fantastic album.

My day was also filled with a bunch of awesome songs off of a mix CD made by my friend when she was like 14ish. "Linger" by Cranberries made me remember the whole Buzz Ballad album, which is essential to reminisce amazing songs from your childhood. So happy to have that to, for future listens of course.

The Eighth Day.

Today a stream of popular songs from the early 2000's have been running through my head. Like "You Don't Have to Call" by (Insert interchangeable R&B singer/dancer) and the ever amazing "She F***ing Hates Me" by Nickleback (a friend informed me it's actually by Puddle of Mud, so Nickleback has never had a good song basically)

No time at all for Internet surfing today. In fact this was the only time I was on at all. Bruce Peninsula is a savior in a field of all ready moderately disappointing releases in 2009 (can't wait for March releases). Though it took some time to love, as most amazing albums seem to do when you first are introduced to the new style and format of the artists new sound or if it's the first time your hearing it, it now seems to be filled with completely necessary songs. My previous statement about the only really stand out songs being the ones most popularly rated in iTunes, there is in fact no song that now doesn't stand out, with either one catchy phrase or simply an amazing sounding segment, all the songs are necessary and enjoyable.

Today I got to listen to some Sublime. From this I remembered how amazing the song "Caress me Down" is. First listened to when I was about 12, it was scandalous, and I only enjoyed it because of it's taboo. Now I can see it has what every song needs. Voice distortion, a simple catchy choirs, and the fact that they are Sublime is not a damning fact either.

Today I had the manwitch song stuck in my head, almost all day. It prevented me from wanting to listen to much else, but when I got home I found some good stuff and something to look forward too.

Psapp has an album coming out in the US on the 17th, though it came out in the UK on October 17, 2008. I'm happy to take advantage of this over-seas album lag, especially because I just started listening to the band. I'm writing for Sunday the 8th, because my Internet was down yesterday and nothing exciting happened today.

Yesterday I bought the Bruce Peninsula album A Mountain Is a Mouth. The whole album is decent, but there are definitely stand out songs separate from the album. Crabapples in particular, is a fantastic track. as well shanty song. basically anything that has a high popularity in the iTunes store.

Today I needed to listen to St. Vincent. Truly needed it for some reason. I didn't listen to any of it, but thankfully she is putting out another album this year.

For now I will have to make due with Bat For Lashes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&v=w0oNWc2j-cI) as my only fill for amazing female solo artists. There's a gap missing (Feist, St. Vincent, Regina Spektor) that just needs to be somewhere in every ones collection.

I'm learning the amazing abilities of the Internet I usually don't explore with a satisfied abundance of things I can go back to when there is nothing else to listen too. Still, the mysteries of full album leeks eludes me. Chromewaves is often my first places to go. There are easy-to-find mp3's for featured bands, and if you didn't notice, my blog is essentially following it at the moment (hopefully that will change.

Today as I released my control of my musical surroundings, I was placed listening to The Flight of the Conchords album, not their live album, the actual one. Paying attention to it I was annoyed at the amount of changes they had made from their flawless stage performance. Sometimes the producers are wrong and sometimes you need to go with what you started with. Still, the album is and will always be highly entertaining.

Saturdays I have opened up to where I can listen to any music I want to. On that day I will create a play list. This was suggested by a friend of my fathers (the play list) to help with my hopeful career in music supervision and when I mentioned it would be very hard to do with only a few albums, my mother said "is this experiment helping you reach your goal." Not willing to hinder my future, I have opened up Saturdays to all music, which also means there will be a play list on Saturdays (Yay!).

-yes I know it's from 2008, but I'm only limiting my listening to only the tracks "Two Weeks", "While You Wait For Others", "2 HUD", and "Fine For Now" which will be released on their album in May.

I've heard of a few other releases. A second ago I was checking out The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/thepainsofbeingpureatheart)

Sadly it's very unexciting and I will most likely not download anything. Honestly it doesn't interest me. Very 80's pop band like. If your a fan there decent, for me the genre always comes out thin.

Allowing others to choose music out of there own free will left me making paper cranes for a friend with a group of other friends that don't even know him listening to Beck, specifically Beck remixes because those are the first in my line up of Beck on my iPod apparently. It was supriseingly entertaining and honestly helped maintain some sanity as it contrasted the tedious work of following paper folding instructions. Something about Mario sounds is soothing.

As we listened to Beck, I found that "Rental Car" by Beck has a very similar melody to one of Nirvana's songs. At first I thought Beck had covered the song (which's title I cannot remember) but it was not a cover, simply a very similar melody. Unable to check, I will only have to guess it is true.

Right now: The Kills "Cheap and Cheerful" on repeat until I finish homework

Only of '09 is a music experiment I'm conducting on myself.

The experiment is that I can only listen to music released in 2009. By only listening to music that has been put out in 2009 I hope for a few things:

1. The discovery of new bands.

2. a sense of what people reacting too in 2009 concerning music.

3. Sharing bands with people.

4. Having new bands shared with me.

Along with these hopes I have established a set of my own rules:

1. I can only download and listen to music released in 2009

2. If other people choose the music, it can be anything

-but I can't force anyone to choose something for me.

3. I can play anything from any time on instruments. (being unable to listen to it will make it more difficult to learn.)

Hopefully all will work out.
